John Bowen Synth Design

Back in February I was told mine would be assembled 3rd or 4th week of March. No updates since then. I'm slightly nervous since there wasn't any communication following John's trip to Germany earlier this month, but I'll wait until the end of next week before succumbing to full-out panic. ; )

Awesome! That's great to know.

You will need a converter to go from Solaris' TOSLINK output to your interface's RCA S/PDIF input.

I'm planning on using Solaris' S/PDIF output as well, but it's a bit of a shame we can't get the full 96khz output from the synth digitally.

as much as i like the solaris, i guess it will be hard to win the award. how many units were sold to real customers up to now? so many potential buyers still consider it vaporware and see / have no chance to get one.

Can John give us a rough estimation, how much DSP power the multitimbrality would eat. Because I would be more interested on having even more impossibly compllicated...ehm, versatile synth, instead of mundane multitimbrality, if it costs a lot of processing power. Even if it costs mere development ...

I really hope that this $4k DIGITAL synthesizer will eventually have a four part multitimbral mode (each part assignable to a separate midi channel) without the need for an expander module.

It's really interesting to read different members feature requests. What you describe above as 'Keyboard Intelligence' isn't high up on my own feature request list (perhaps a few audio examples could change my mind), but I really like the idea of modular upgrades for the Solaris. I can't think of ...

Great idea! No need to ditch an old algorithm if it's got some low-end magic missing in the newer, alias-free type.

Both of those seem like great additions.

Is this second multimode osc already in place in the plugin solaris, or did the idea evolve out of something else?

Amazing! This was something I was really hoping for down the road. I love the SEM bandpass so much, and have used it (well the studio electronics clone anyway) in a bunch of patches over the last few years. So glad it will be available - along with all the other modes - right from the start.
